Forest Park asking for volunteers for clean-up after storm damage
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The damage and debris from Friday’s storm is still extensive Friday in Forest Park.
Crews are still working to clear safety hazards before volunteers can come in. Forest Park Forever has set up a volunteer sheet for clean-up after the areas are deemed safe. You can sign up here.
As of Friday, Forest Park Forever is asking visitors to give them space and avoid work areas. The areas still closed are:
- The Nicholas J. Booker Basketball Courts until surrounding tree work is finished
- Kennedy Forest and Kennedy Boardwalks have sustained damage, and the paths should not be considered safe
- Trails around Skinker Boulevard and Lindell Boulevard
- Cascades waterfall
- Trails along Lagoon Drive, between Emerson Grand Basin and Picnic Island
- The allee of trees at the top of Art Hill
- The Anne O’C. Albrecht Nature Playscape
Forest Park Forever said that most of the cultural institutes have reopened, and they have plans for the Dennis & Judith Jones Visitor and Education Center to reopen by the weekend. The Jewel Box is open, but the surrounding greenspace and paths, including the St. Francis of Assisi statue, the Korean War Memorial, and Vandeventer Place Gates are still closed.
Several of the park’s paths are impacted, and even if they look clear, visitors need to be careful because limbs could fall from the trees above.
“The community rallied to restore Forest Park to what it looks like now, and I know we will do that again. We’re going to be able to plant lots of trees and repair landscapes. It’s just going to take a lot of time,” Dominik Jansky with Forest Park Forever said.
