ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) — There are so many things that make us special as individuals from the inside out, including our hair. Whether it’s straight, curly, long, or short - it’s a form of expression and identity.

But when it comes to Black hairstyles, there’s been a controversial history.

Being Black in a newsroom can already be tough to navigate.

We try to find a voice that resonates with everyone, no matter race, gender or creed - while still dealing with racial disparities, which can be a silent battle.

If that isn’t enough, add in our hair.
